Unfortunate accidents

I am very alarmed by all the incidents of children accidentally falling from balconies and windows in Sharjah. We live in a two-bedroom apartment with two balconies.

The first thing we did when we moved in was seal all the bedroom windows (big sliding windows) with tape so they cannot be opened.

When we want to air the house we open the balcony doors and keep an eye on the children.

So here are a few recommendations to make your house
safe for your children. For the kitchen windows, have the building carpenter wedge a nail in the sliding groove so the windows can only be opened a few inches. For the balcony doors, have the carpenter install locks with keys, as too often the in-built locks are not reliable.

Never store chairs, toys, tables or anything that kids can climb on and lean over balconies. Never leave children unattended on balconies. Always keep in mind that balconies are a danger zone for kids.
