The efforts of our leadership deserve to be thoroughly applauded. Such an occasion calls for merriment, but not to such an extent that we get so utterly indulged in celebration that we forget about all those who are unable to live a life with even half as many luxuries. Instead of spending extraordinary amounts ‘celebrating’ to ensure one’s own satisfaction, would it not be a wiser choice to spare a thought towards people who are struggling to make ends meet?

While we celebrate extravagantly and go to sleep, there are those poor people who might be trying not to allow their hunger to take a toll on their fragile frame. Celebration is not equivalent to spending hefty sums in the name of celebrating the birth of the nation, but rising together as one, caring equally about each and every resident of the country.
