Palestinians are in desperate need of blankets, food, stoves and fuel as they take refuge in makeshift tents — many of which are not even waterproof
A massive fire that broke out at Al Hafeet Tower in Sharjah on Monday afternoon displaced dozens of families in a matter of two hours. Though many residents suffered breathing difficulty due to smoke inhalation, fatalities and further destruction was avoided due to the quick response and prompt action by the police and rescue teams that helped in evacuating the residents and minimising the spread of blaze.
Quite often one hears about fire breaking out in high-rise buildings. The common occurrences of fire in residential buildings leave the residents in lurch. If adequate enforcement of existing building codes and safety procedures are followed to the letter of law, fire can be preventable. For many a times, it is human error that is the prime cause of untoward incidents. Hence being cautious and vigilant goes a long way.
