While the editorial Crackdown on Taleban (Feb 25 ) is correct to note the confusion in the Pakistan government’s approach to curbing terrorism, it is unfair to suggest that the army is “apologetic”.
While the interior minister reflects the casual and appeasing stance of the government by calling for a ‘cricket match’ with the Taleban, the army has responded firmly. It is evident from the fact that during Gen Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, there were about 500 plus terror incidents in seven years compared to 1,300 plus such incidents in the seven years since then.
