This is in response to the letter on shabby houses in these columns. Some buildings in Dubai need a face-lift and surroundings require a clean up.

I am very appalled that several buildings have become dirty and also look old and shabby. One can definitely fathom the plight of residents, to whom the area has really become a nightmare.

If you step into certain buildings you will be dazed and want to leave. Recently, when I entered a building I noticed cats populating the area and having a lovely time making the neighbourhood dirty. There are also papers and rubbish scattered all over, leaving a really bad stench. As many of the buildings are old, in some parts of the walls, one can see paint peeling off.

Neighbours have often complained about the lack of cleanliness and the neglect by
those who are responsible for tidying up the area.

At times, due to cat litter, the smell lasts for days and is very harmful for our health.

It is about time we start taking care of our surroundings, as living in conditions such as these would make us sick and prone to serious illness.

Having said that majority of us are from the middle-income group, we are unable to move to a different location. Why not renovate the buildings and at least touch up the area, to make the place look beautiful?
