With reference to the report, RAK Ruler pays for education of 1,971 low-income expat students, (KT, April 27), the gesture of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah should be appreciated. Most of these students could not attend classes because their parents are not able to pay fees. Some of them have lost their jobs while others are not getting their salaries on time. Many of them have been caught in a debt trap. In the Year of Tolerance Sheikh Saud has shown an exemplary model of compassion and generosity towards expatriates.
Thousands of students are forced to stay at home in other emirates, too. Charitable organisations should take the initiative so that people can contribute towards this purpose. It will be a relief for parents and students will be able to continue their education.
