I recently received a call from a particular number.

The caller said he was calling from Etisalat and my phone number had won a lucky draw contest. He asked me to check my SIM number and confirm it with him. He then asked me to recharge my number with Dh2,500, after which Dh5,000 would be transferred to UAE Exchange. I immediately realised that this was a scam. But the man hung up before I could confront him, and since then his number is switched off. I urge all readers to be alert. While many of us will get very excited at the thought of winning a cash prize, we may fail to realise that we hadn’t even participated in such a contest in the first place.
