The article Protect but prepare your kids for social evils (KT, Aug 28) made some pertinent observations regarding the mindset, exposure, and accessibility to information about social evils. While kids are aware of prevalent social crimes such as child abuse, violence, etc. it is doubtful if they get right information regarding how they should protect themselves. Parental guidance and influence play a vital role in giving children the right perspective on such taboo subjects. This can happen only if parents and children get to spend quality time together. Face to face interactions matter, as such talks cannot be done on whatsapp, phone, or other digital and virtual means. In fact, positive resources of web information on such issues can be watched together by both and discussed so the kids are better prepared as they benefit from the wisdom of parents and elders. -Latha Narasimhan, Sharjah
