The phenomenal sums paid for two players now out of Tests at the latest edition of the Indian Premier League players’ auction (IPL: Yuvraj, Karthik bag million-dollar contracts, Feb 13) show that there is, after all, life after Test cricket.
Kevin Pietersen, fall guy of the recent Ashes debacle, and cancer survivor Yuvraj Singh are no doubt exciting cricketers, having proved their worth for their respective countries, during their bouts at the crease but whether this segment of global cricket will resuscitate the game or not remains to be seen. The recent International Cricket Council shake-up proves that the monetary aspect is key to its survival.
