Coronavirus cases in India have now crossed eight million, just 1,200,000 cases behind the US, the worst impacted country in the world.

With Diwali, the major Indian festival in November, there is a serious danger of Covid-19 spreading aggressively. Then the state governments may be compelled to reimpose strict lockdowns. This will again cripple the economy and cause massive inconvenience to all citizens. It is worth noting that countries like France and Germany are going into stringent lockdowns again, due to a second wave of Covid-19. Even Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the UK is under pressure to enforce stricter lockdowns.

So India needs to mask, practice social distancing, and avoid inordinate social mingling during the ensuing festive season, to avoid draconian lockdowns again.
