Leena Nair

This is with reference to KT’s article ‘In conversation with Leena Nair”. I read the article from start to end, because it was starkly reminiscent of my wife’s experience.

My wife did her MBA in 1983 from Pune University in materials management. After our marriage she shifted to Mumbai with me and we tried to get her a suitable job. But we were not successful as many companies do not want to hire ladies.

She did, however, find work later but it lasted for a little less than two years. Since then she has been suffering from depression, which makes me feel guilty about it. The moral of the story: Getting the right kind of opening for women in good companies, specially in Mumbai, is never an easy thing.
