The ongoing debate on heavy school bags is valid but needs to be looked into through a different perspective (Why are kids' school bags heavy in the digital era, parents in UAE ask; KT, Aug 26). We all know how damaging screen time is for our eyes. Therefore, why should parents stress on digital means for education. Carrying some books in school bags is not a big issue. But I think the burden can be lessened if students are allowed to keep notebooks in schools. Trolley bag is another good solution.
If everything goes online, the next thing we'll be worrying about will be poor vision and issues related to eyes. Yes, one big change can happen if printouts can replace the books and one file is given to every child instead of books. Kids will then just carry the particular chapters which will be needed to study for the day.
