This is with reference to the repeated tragic incidents of children losing their lives after being 'forgotten' in vehicles.
But it is unfortunate that in each of these incidents the neglect happened not only from the side of the bus driver but also the children themselves. The children may not have been aware of the seriousness of the issue when they found their schoolmate sleeping in the bus!
Introduction of electronic punch-in punch-out system is one way to tackle the issue. The 'buddy system' is another way to tackle the issue. The children themselves must be made responsible for each other's safety. If they find any child sleeping in the bus once they reach school, they should either wake them up or inform the driver. This will not only save lives but also teach children the noble values of 'empathy and cooperation'.
Once the children are trained and made aware that it is fatal to leave a child sleeping in the bus, they will take the initiative to ensure it does not happen again. In fact, they may do a better job than adults.
Just as we train children on fire safety, nutrition, and recycling, let's teach our children to care for each other and be responsible for one another. This way we not only avoid the tragedy but also raise our kids as responsible and caring individuals.
