This is in response to ARS Modak’s letter, “Bengali tigers” published in KT on January 24. Rabindranath Tagore never used title ‘Sir’.
He was granted knighthood in 1915 by the British Crown, but he renounced the knighthood in protest of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. So adding Sir with the great poet is only to dishonour him as well as dishonouring the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. I humbly request the author not to refer Sir when recalling Rabindranath Tagore.
