February 15 will remain a memorable day in my life in Dubai. I woke up at around 3.30am, picked up our pilot and a couple of my friends and headed to Barracuda Beach Resort in Umm Al Quwain. Yes, we, an excited lot were part of the Khaleej Times' Desert Drive. After registering, we had a light breakfast and picked up the lunch pack while our pilot deflated the tires of our beast, the Jeep Wrangler. We made a head-start and reached most of the checkpoints ahead of time. In some places, we were alone and in others we led the pack. By about 3pm we reached Basatta camp, and enjoyed the rest of the evening watching a fire show, Tanoura and belly dance and a sumptuous dinner. A big thank you to our pilot, Terrence Perera, and to KT.
