I have been a resident of Abu Dhabi for 34 years and work with one of the biggest oil and gas firms in the country. The last few decades have been the golden period for the oil and gas industry and the benefits have been enjoyed by all of us.
Most of the residents have enjoyed a great time here in the UAE, and have been taken care of well by the leadership, who have ensured a fair and just society.
Now the country is going through a rough phase because of Covid-19 pandemic and crash in oil prices, it is the duty of individuals to voluntarily contribute whatever they can to help the nation overcome the crisis.
A lot of currencies have devalued. So individuals who are at senior positions and can afford to take cuts in salaries should do that. They should also propose ideas on how can companies tighten their belts and reduce financial burden.
The UAE has always treated its expatriates and nationals alike. It is time for us to get together and help the country fight back this pandemic. -Arvind Dhumale, Abu Dhabi
