I am writing to you in regard to the article Free parking in Sharjah extended until June 30. I am a parent of a child of determination staying in Sharjah Rolla. We live near a shopping district, which is famous for its gold market and has a number of medical clinics. It is a busy area, frequently visited by many in Sharjah and also by residents in other emirates.
Considering the popularity of this place, the parking area should have got facilities and dedicated parking spots that are friendly for people of determination. But there are none. It's a nightmare for families like mine (as we need access areas for wheelchair) to find parking as there are no spaces earmarked for handicap parking.
Moreover, an ongoing digging by Sharjah Municipality is further making mobility and parking an issue. Authorities should look into this and make provisions for families with people of determination.
Everyday is a struggle but governments can alleviate the stress by ensuring that public spaces are sensitive to their needs. Ease of mobility and transport should not be an issue for people with determination. -Nazim Motiwala, Sharjah
