It is getting challenging for companies, industries to run as usual. Many are asking employees to take unpaid leaves. There is hardly any one who has not been hit by the ongoing crisis. This crisis has hit us at a time when things were anyway not looking up for a lot of people in the world of employment. I have friends who were here looking for better work opportunities. But even after a year of looking around, they couldn't find any and had to return to their home country. It was truly surprising because they had several years of experience under their belt. Where are the jobs these days? What's worse is that people who are working are also not being compensated well. The cost of living has steadily increased over the years, but the rate of increments hasn't kept pace. It's a tough world out here. Perhaps, a government run department for the control of unemployment could help. - Mathew Litty, Sharjah
