Greet people you love in person, not through apps

Filed on February 11, 2020 | Last updated on February 11, 2020 at 06.56 pm

I enjoyed reading the opinion piece 'Control your messaging apps and get your life back' published in Khaleej Times on Feb. 11.

I support the writer's point of view regarding the use of gadgets. WhatsApp and other forms of social chatting has become an inevitable part of our day-to-day life that we cannot resist its use even for a moment. Last week, I visited my native place but before going there I was resolved not to use WhatsApp at least for a week. It was a delightful experience.

Why do we have such an inseparable bond with our gadgets, when growing up we did not enjoy any such facilities. Come to think of it, the lack of such gadgets at that time may be the reason most of us have strong bonds with families and friends. Although social chatting has become a basic necessity, I feel the writer is right in suggesting that once in a while we should let go of our social apps and communicate through hand-written letters or e-mails which will in turn regulate the use of apps.
