Everything's fair about post-poll victory

Filed on November 24, 2019 | Last updated on November 24, 2019 at 09.46 pm

Politics in India has touched a new low. Look how all parties are trading favours, candidates and even bending constitutional traditions to seize power in Maharastra. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena had a pre-poll alliance, as did the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress. Yet, no party had enough seats to form the government on its own. The Shiv Sena then teamed up with the NCP and Congress to form a government. However, before this could happen, early morning on November 23, the President's rule was revoked in the state, and the BJP government was sworn-in, with the support of a faction of NCP rebels.

The people who elected these parties are of no consequence. The parties that they voted for on the basis of their agendas, are now all mixed-up, like scrambled eggs. All party agendas have vanished. The only goal seems to be is to seize power.
