Another child decided to take her life after she was chided by her mother (Indian teen commits suicide after mother scolds her; KT, Jan. 22). I feel sorry for the girl, and her family. It is true, youngsters are facing intense pressure. But I fail to understand what is making them emotionally fragile that the only way out for some is to commit suicide. Is there no bond with parents? Where are the friends? It is important for parents to handle their children well. Paying attention to their emotional needs is vital, and so is understanding their feelings. And it is equally important for children to have the channels of communications open with parents.
