Begging is an offence in the UAE

Good on the part of the authorities to arrest the beggars outside the mosque (Two women get jail term for begging outside mosque in Dubai; KT, Dec 8). I have been noticing a rising trend in beggary, despite the fact that it is illegal to do so in the UAE.
Recently during a visit to the supermarket, I was shocked to see a woman asking for money from random people. I have also noticed such incidents inside mosques and in restaurants. It is an alarming trend and creating uneasiness among residents.
