Dubai - An expatriate parent in the UAE can sponsor his son up to the age of 18 years.

Question: I live in the emirate of Dubai and sponsor the residence visa of my family -- my wife and two children. My eldest son is about to be 18 years old and he will complete his grade XII next year. Upon its completion, I intend him to pursue a correspondence course from my home country. I wish my son remains under my visa sponsorship and continues to reside with me in the UAE after attaining 18 years of age. What are the options open to me?
Answer: It should be noted that an expatriate parent in the UAE can sponsor his son up to the age of 18 years. You will not be able to continue to keep him under your visa sponsorship after he is 18 years. Your son may obtain an employment and reside in the UAE under his employer's visa or may enroll himself at an educational institution for a course in the UAE and obtain a student visa from where he studies.
