Lana Del Rey captivates Abu Dhabi at F1 performance
Sang her greatest hits
IT WAS LESS A CASE OF 'Summertime Sadness', more 'wintertime madness', as the crowd went wild in the temperate climes gracing the du Arena when Lana Del Rey took to the stage on Saturday evening. Bringing her iconic brand of romantic and vintage songwriting to the UAE capital for the very first time on the penultimate night of the Yasalam 2019 After-Race Concerts, Del Rey showcased her vocal brilliance by delivering a masterclass of magical hits from previous albums Born To Die, Grammy - nominated Lust For Life and Ultraviolence as well as her most recent critically acclaimed work, Norman Rockwell.
Stepping onto a set adorned with romantic trees and swings, a fitting design for her soothing musical style, Del Rey began by thanking her fans, stating: "I can't tell you how special and beautiful it is to be here" before starting the performance with a striking rendition of Norman Rockwell, followed by Bartender - furthering her status as a soft rock n' roll idol. As she continued her spectacular show, Del Rey sang Shades Of Cool, Born To Die, and fan favourite Blue Jeans, which saw the crowd swaying and singing in unison. Del Rey went on to perform a medley of other hits before launching into Summertime Sadness, following on the seasonal theme with an incredible rendition of Sublime's hit Summertime. Closing the show, Del Rey whispered more kind words to her fans, thanking them for being there with her this evening.
Opening the night for Del Rey was US - Syrian DJ and fashion blogger Tala Samman, who warmed up the audience with funky hip - hop and dance tunes as the numbers steadily grew to a full house ahead of the much-awaited main act.
