Ras Al khaimah — The University of West London RAK Branch Campus believes that universities and academic institutions need to reconsider their approaches and strategies in order to equip students with the 21st century skills needed to thrive in the future. This is why the campus has adopted a model that offers mutually beneficial industry partnerships alongside regular webinars hosted by industry experts for its students.
Employers are increasingly demanding skills from graduates that are outside the subject area of study. In fact, some employers have placed less importance on the actual discipline in favour of the more generic skills that they have acquired. The University of West London (UWL) RAK Branch Campus takes it even farther.
Employability is not just about getting a job, it is about gaining and excelling in a wide range of relevant skills that will enable students to be successful throughout their working life. It is with this goal in mind that the university has established an Employability Lab, the purpose of which could be expressed as “Building Tomorrows Leaders Today.”
Through a structured process consisting of research backed interventions we strive to provide trainings in crucial skills, work experience, volunteering opportunities, and involvement in clubs and societies. At the foundation of the Employability Lab lies the “PERFECT” competencies — Problem-solving, Emotional Intelligence, Resilience, Flexibility, Efficiency, Communication skills, and Technology use.
