KP Group, a leading renewable energy company in India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure. The agreement supports Botswana’s ambition to become a net-zero country by 2030 and marks a key milestone in KP Group’s international expansion.

The MoU follows the visit of Smt. Droupadi Murmu, President of India, to Botswana and reflects strengthening bilateral cooperation in clean energy development. It was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, comprising KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited.

Under the agreement, KP Group and the government of Botswana will jointly develop renewable energy and related infrastructure projects involving an estimated capital investment of $4 billion (₹36,000 crore). These initiatives are expected to raise Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 gigawatts. The collaboration also includes the development and upgrading of high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana, along with enhanced interconnections with neighbouring countries to support regional power transmission and energy security.

As part of the partnership, KP Group will support 30 scholarships each year for citizens of Botswana to pursue education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and allied disciplines. The initiative is aimed at building local capacity, encouraging knowledge transfer, and enabling youth participation in the clean energy transition.

The MoU signing was accompanied by Harsh Rameshbhai Sanghavi, Gujarat deputy chief minister and home minister, virtually inaugurating KP Green Engineering’s fabrication and galvanising facility at Matar, Bharuch, strengthening the Group’s manufacturing capabilities for large-scale renewable energy projects.

Commenting on the MoU, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy, said: "The partnership would accelerate clean energy deployment while delivering long-term economic and environmental benefits." Dr Faruk G. Patel, founding promoter of KP Group, said: "The collaboration reflects a shared vision to unlock Botswana’s solar and wind potential and support its journey toward net-zero."
