The verdict is out - many residents are just adding on to the massage parlour card menace in Dubai by brushing them off their vehicles on to the streets.
Over 40 per cent of respondents (2,126) in a Khaleej Times online poll admitted to throwing the massage cards on the road. The rest of the respondents (3,140) said they dispose of the cards in bins.
We conducted the poll as part of our latest #KTforGood campaign called #BinIt that encourages residents to stop littering and bin their trash.
It is frustrating to find tens of such cards lined up on cars, but you risk a Dh500 fine for throwing them on the streets. Moreover, you are adding on to the woes of cleaners, who say they clear over 50,000 cards daily from just one locality in Dubai. "We need to put a stop to this. It's getting out of hand, and whoever is doing this needs to stop. Until then, I am requesting that people throw the cards they find into a waste bin," a cleaner in Barsha Heights, Joseph Ofori, urged residents.
Netizens who responded to our poll said the massage card littering practice is "selfish and senseless".
Comments also poured in on KT's Facebook page, with residents sharing their views on the massage card littering problem.
"Where is the respect for the environment and those people who try to keep the city clean?" asked Milla Piipponen.
Sana Abdulhameed said: "Worst thing ever! And these poor cleaners keep picking (the cards). This should stop soon!"
Another respondent, Imtiyaz Ahmad Beigh, said he had never seen a resident disposing off the cards in a bin in the 15 years he has lived in Dubai.
