Woman stabs husband after he took too long for Christmas shopping

He hopes that speaking out about his plight will help male victims of domestic violence.

A henpecked husband who had separated from his wife after a decade of troubled marriage, was stabbed in the back by her as he apparently took too long to do Christmas shopping. The woman has been awarded 14 years in jail and given an extra four years on license.
Stuart Simpson, 45, a chef, said his former wife, Sonia, 52, subjected him to ten years of domestic violence but had still invited her to celebrate Christmas Day with him and his new partner Stacey, 28. The incident occurred on December 23 last year, two months after the couple ended their relationship.  
Simpson from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, said that Sonia became furious because he returned home from shopping later than she expected. She first lunged at Stacey and punched her in the face and then stabbed Simpson in the back with a kitchen knife. "She asked Stacey if she thought I was an idiot and, when Stacey disagreed, Sonia lunged at her and punched her in the face. I grabbed Stacey and pushed her out of the room - protecting her from Sonia," Simpson said.
Meanwhile, Stacey who was in the living room, called the police. "As I shut the living door, I felt a sharp sensation in my back. Moments later, I realised that Sonia had stabbed me so hard with a kitchen knife that the handle had snapped off," Simpson said adding that he though he was going to die.
Sonia was arrested while Simpson was rushed to James Pagett Hospital, Norfolk, with a collapsed lung and was hospitalised for five days. While, Stacey suffered a fractured cheekbone in the attack. "I completely missed Christmas and couldn't believe that instead of enjoying a roast dinner, I'd been carved up like a turkey by my crazy ex," he said.
Sonia pleaded in a letter to Simpson asking him to drop charges against her. In July, Sonia appeared at Norwich Crown Court and pleaded guilty to punching Stacey but denied the charges against her husband. Sonia was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and perverting the course of justice and was jailed for 14 years and given an extra four years on license.
