After three hours of sifting through 10 tonnes of trash at a landfill, sanitation workers in Atlanta were successful in finding jewellery worth $100,000 (Dh367,300).
The jewellery -- three diamond rings, and a diamond tennis bracelet, packed in a black bag -- was thrown by a woman by mistake.
"If her timing was spot on, I know that there was a great chance that we could find this right here," one employee was quoted saying by wmcactionnews5.
The woman had made an urgent call to the concerned department and the search was undertaken just on time. Had the woman made the call a few minutes later, chances of her getting the jewellery back was meager.
A team of five landfill employees were put on the task of searching the jewellery from a recently loaded garbage truck.
"We dumped it here because we (were) going to try and go through it. We went the extra mile to try to make sure that if it was in that can, we were going to find it," an employee said.
After hours of toil, they were successful in finding a black trash bag with diamond jewellery inside.
