Taking selfie on railway line proved disastrous for a 15-year-old schoolgirl in Russia who was run over by a freight train. Karina Baymukhambetova, from Orsk in Russia, failed to notice the train hurtling towards as she was engrossed in taking selfie on the tracks.
According to reports in Metro.co.uk, Karina was with a boy whose identity is not known but is believed to be a relative. The boy managed to escape in the nick of time but Karina was not as fortunate and was run over. He is said to have warned Karina about the dangers, but she instead told him: 'Be afraid of nothing in life'.
It is reported that the driver tried to stop the train by applying emergency brakes and also sounded horn but was unable to avoid the tragedy. Following the accident, police in Russia issued a warning to people  trying to take selfies on train tracks.
Elena Zaporozhskaya, Orsk social policy chief, said, "Children need to be able to say "no" when something is risky for their life and health. It is a hard thing to learn but necessary. Secondly, I want parents to know where their children are and with whom they are spending time. People must protect the lives and health of their children."
While messages poured in for Karina on social media after her tragic death. Her friend Anastasia Meshkova wrote: 'We remember, we love, we grieve'. A family friend Lena Dzyuba wrote: 'Such grief.
How her mother cried, my heart almost broke into pieces, so awful'. A criminal investigation has been initiated in the death.
