Newlywed Filipino couple drowns while on honeymoon

A Filipino expat couple, who were on their honeymoon in the Maldives died on Sunday. The couple were snorkelling off the coast of an island in Maldives where they drowned. 
According GMA News, the couple's time in Maldives took a turn for the worst when Erika Lagradilla tried to save her husband, Leomer who drowned first. Unfortunately, she died whilst trying to save him. Rescuers managed to rush them to a local hospital but they were declared dead on arrival.
The high-school sweethearts had been together for 10 years before tying the knot. The couple had a long-distance relationship as 29-year-old Leomer was based in Singapore and 30-year-old Erika was based in Saudi.
According to the Filipino Times, the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka has been coordinating with Maldivian authorities regarding the repatriation of the couple's remains. A probe on how the events unfolded that day is still underway.
On Leomer's Facebook page, it reveals that the couple got married on December 18, 2018. They were married a year after he proposed to her on June 19, 2017.
