In a shocking online sales ad, parents in Australia reportedly put their son up for sale for $50 (Dh180 approx) under 'outdoor toys'.
The advert on Gumtree showed a picture of the boy alongside a description that read: 'Kid for sale, fifty bucks. Can deliver/drop off. Or pick up. Gender male'. The ad finishes with a message that reads: 'Identifies as a three meter flatty', an apparent reference to a flathead (fish). The child for sale was listed among ads for play equipment, bicycles and scooters, reported News.com.au.
The bizarre ad which was posted on Gumtree Australia last weekend, has since been taken down and featured a pick-up address in Darwin, Australia, reported Mirror.co.uk. The Gumtree user who found and reported the post said she was "shocked". "You find all sorts of quirky things but I wasn't expecting to find a boy for sale," she said.
Gumtree Australia's terms and conditions states under "what is not allowed on Gumtree" that "Blood, Bodily Fluids and Body Parts" and not allowed and "We do not accept ads selling body parts/bodily fluids, adoption or surrogacy anywhere on the site". Speaking on the shocking ad, Gumtree told 7NEWS.com.au that "these types of adverts" are not tolerated on the platform.
"We rely on our users' feedback to keep the platform safe and we do not tolerate these types of adverts on Gumtree. We have a variety of measures in place to ensure they do not make it on to the platform and work closely with law enforcement agencies to share information," the company said in a statement.
