Pakistani audience was left heartbroken after watching the final nail-biting episode of TV serial 'Mere Paas Tum Ho' on Friday.
The hit drama serial is written by Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar and directed by Nadeem Baig.
The show's finale featured the death of protagonist Danish (played by Humayun Saeed) who passes away after suffering a heart attack following a meeting with his wife Mehwish.
The controversial series had faced criticism for its misogynistic storyline and the matter landed in court when a woman petitioner sought to stop the airing of the serial's last episode.
Legal issues
Civil judge Naila Ayub on Friday rejected an application to stay the airing of the final episode of the serial, reported Pakistan Today.
The petitioner, Maham Chaudhry, alleged that the serial showed women in a bad light as its writer, Khalilur Rehman Qamar's main character Mehwish (Ayeza Khan) leaves her poor husband Danish (Humayun Saeed) for a wealthy man Shehwaar (Adnan Siddiqui).
But after civil judge Naila Ayub gave a green signal for airing the finale episode, it was showcased not only on TV screens but also in theaters and on ARY's cellphone app, ARY Zap, ARY News TV reported.
Fans heartbroken
The much awaited episode however left fans heartbroken with the serial ending on a tragic note.
The estranged pair meet up in their old house and the bitter memories of betrayal and unfaithfulness haunt Danish, reported Geo TV.
Siddiqui comments on his role
In an exclusive interview with City Times, Adnan Siddiqui, who is nominated for his role in 'Mere Paas Tum Ho' at the upcoming Pakistan International Screen Awards (PISA) to be held in Dubai on February 7, mentioned the difference between television series in the 90s and now: "With society changing, the tolerance levels of people have also reduced. I think the content is not as strong as it was back then. Why is it that it is only once in a while you come across a drama like Mere Paas Tum Ho?, Adnan asked.
Siddiqui continued that he was honoured to be nominated for the role in the 'controversial' series. " When I'd read my character, I was in two minds, wondering if my audience would like to see me in that role or not. But thanks to the Almighty this character turned out to be one of my most recognised characters."
