A Delaware man did not pay any heed on the $50,000 lottery ticket for three months until he read a news article of the unclaimed prize money.
The 69-year-old man from Ellendale told Delaware Lottery officials that he read a news article about an unclaimed prize from the June 13 drawing and decided to check his tickets.
"I took them in to have the cashier check them," the man said. "She said I was a winner, but joked that the winning amount was too much to tell me right there in the store," UPI quoted the winner as saying.
The man was shocked when he discovered he had been holding on to the $50,000 ticket for three months. "I was in disbelief. I play every Wednesday and Saturday morning when I stop for coffee," the oblivious winner said.
Revealing how he plans to spend the prize money, he said, "I plan to pay off some bills and put some in the bank. I'll also spend some of it on an old car I've been fixing up."
