Event organizers said each concrete slab weighed 100 kg and 50 such slabs were placed on Janaka Kanchana Mudannayake's chest, one after the other, which was broken by a heavy hammer.
Janaka had to accomplish the task under 20 minutes to set a world record, but he completed it within 5 minutes 40 seconds, setting a new world record, Xinhua news agency reported.
"I am very happy I was able to perform this task within such a short period of time. In the future I plan to break more world records. I thank the panelists who were present here to witness my achievement," Mudannayake told the audience at the Hambantota Port following his record-breaking performance.
Last year, he broke the world record and also entered the Guinness Book of World Records by bending 22 steel rods within 48 seconds.
The previous record for this task was held by an Armenian national named Amen Adams who bent 18 steel rods within one minute. One steel rod weighed 900 grams.
