An error in his birth certificate has left Indian youth Harpreet Singh in a lurch. A resident of Punjab, Harpreet was born on February 20, 1995, but the birth certificate issued to him by the Ludhiana civil surgeon office states his date of birth as February 30, 1995.

According to reports in Hindustan Times, the certificate was issued on October 21, 2016 and is not typed but handwritten. Ironically, the certificate has been signed by three officials who have failed to pick the error.

Harpreet is now running from pillar to post to get the error rectified as he plans to pursue his studies abroad and apply for passport.

He stated that he gave an application at the chief minister's office on December 22, 2016 but to no avail. "No one listens to me at the office. I have been running from pillar to post for the last one year. Ess desh vich kuch nahi ho sakda. Meri ki galti hai (Nothing works properly in this country. What is my fault in it)," said a visibly irritated Harpreet.

He said that officials at the civil surgeon office are only dilly-dallying the whole issue prolonging his plight. "The officials at the civil surgeon office told me it's a clerical mistake and guided me to go and approach the concerned department but no one seemed to understand his problem, he added."
