Kartarpur Corridor: List of do's and don'ts for pilgrims

The first group of pilgrims from India is expected to arrive on November 9.

India and Pakistan on Thursday signed the much-awaited agreement for operationalising Kartarpur Corridor, paving the way for its inauguration next month ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
The corridor will facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was established in 1522 by Sikh faith founder Guru Nanak Dev. Both countries will hold events to mark the opening of their sections of the corridor.  

Hours after India and Pakistan signed the Kartarpur agreement, Pakistan Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mohammed Faisal said that the first group of pilgrims from India is expected to arrive on November 9.
Under the agreement, the Indian government will inform Pakistan authorities about the list of the pilgrims 10 days in advance and pilgrims will be notified through mail four days ahead of the travel.
For registration of pilgrims, the online portal, prakashpurb550.mha.gov.in, went live on Thursday. The pilgrims may have to necessarily register themselves online on this portal and exercise their choice to travel on any day. They will be informed by SMS and email of the confirmation of registration three to four days in advance of the date of travel.
Pilgrims need to carry only a valid passport and Persons of Indian Origin need to carry Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card along with the passport of their country.
Meanwhile, the home ministry has issued a 'dos and don'ts for the pilgrims.
General Instructions for Pilgrims

All Pilgrims who propose to visit Sri Kartarpur Sahib in district Narowal, Pakistan may register here in advance.
Applicant is required to register himself/herself in advance of proposed date of travel.
Registration does not confer a right to travel.
Applicants who are granted permission may be informed only 4 days before proposed date of travel. Therefore, Applicants should make their travel arrangements in advance.
Pilgrims will go in the morning and shall have to return the same day.
Pilgrims shall be allowed to visit only Sri Kartarpur Sahib and not anywhere outside.

Do's

Children below 13 years and elderly persons of about 75 years and above should be kept in group.
Eco-friendly material, preferably cloth bags should be used & surroundings should be kept clean.
Currency limitation of maximum 1,1000/- INR must be followed.
Only one baggage up to 7kg weight including drinking water may be carried.

Don'ts

Do not carry any item mentioned in the negative list
Smoking, drinking and use of tobacco is not allowed inside Passenger Terminal Building(PTB) Complex
Do not touch any unattended article. Inform about anything suspicious to the authorities.
Playing loud music and photographing others without permission may not be done.

The Corridor will be open from dawn to dusk and the pilgrims travelling in the morning will have to return on the same day. The Corridor will be operational throughout the year, except on notified days, which will be informed in advance.
The corridor is likely to be inaugurated by the Indian and Pakistani Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Imran Khan respectively, on November 9.

Everyday, 5,000 Indian pilgrims will be allowed to visit the holy site.
Last November, the Union Cabinet had passed a resolution to celebrate 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and approved the building and development of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to the International Boundary to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.
