Right from chunky bangles, polki earrings and oversized rings, Diwali gives you a number of reasons to dress up! These days the younger generation is seen opting for more modern designs with a hint of tradition. And one of the best ways to jazz up your outfit is by pairing traditional jhumkhas with chic diamond bangles. Plus, using a mix of gemstones, diamonds or gold will light up the face and will make your outfit standout.
Gold is an essential part of Diwali celebrations and is considered to be a symbol of wealth and status and buying it makes for a great investment. Dhanteras, a day considered auspicious specifically for buying gold is celebrated two days before Diwali, and shows the special significance of the yellow metal. On the day of Dhanteras, families are often spotted in the Gold Souk or Meena Bazaar browsing through an array of different designs and selecting pieces that would make for great gifts or investments. Promotions further make shopping for jewellery more enticing.
It's important to size up your jewellery with your outfit before locking the final look. If you are going for a simple sari, then keep the jewellery heavy. Remember that the festive season is all about being grand so pick up jewellery with intricate and elaborate designs that will make you stand out from the crowd. Opt for large, fashionable earrings, head pendants and choker necklaces to complete the jaw-dropping look. And remember, the more chunky pieces you wear, the more striking your fashion statement is going to be.
Here is a look at the some of the hottest jewellery trends this festive season that are sure to make a striking statement:
Choker necklace: These chunky necklaces reflect royalty and look great on heavy outfits. They often feature traditional motifs encrusted in diamonds and come in a number of beautiful designs.
Haath phool: Another lovely accessory is the haath phool that attaches a bangle to different rings. They look especially good when paired with anarkali outfits and gives the overall look an authentic touch.
Jhoomer: Quite a trend lately, this hair accessory can be pinned up on any hairstyle. It looks neat while offering a traditional twist to the appearance.
Traditional motifs: Jewellery featuring peacock and paisley motifs are quite popular and lend a desi feeling to the look and makes the overall attire standout.
Pearls and White Gold: For those who like to keep it simple and classic, pearl earrings can be combined either with gold or diamond bangles. White gold has become the choice for cocktail parties and looks good when worn with an embroidered sari for a minimalistic look.
Kundan: For a more bold and traditional look, opting for oversized Kundan gold sets is a great idea and will make you the centre of attention when worn with vintage prints.
Polki and Diamonds: It has found its way in contemporary designs and by just wearing polki earrings you can give your outfit a festive effect. Also wearing fashionable ear cuffs with rubies and diamonds, gives a stylish blend of modern and traditional essence to the outfit.
Silver: Oxidised necklaces embedded with coloured stones are hot sellers this season. They can be paired easily with either a salwar kameez or even a heavily embroidered chaniya choli.
