Aster DM Healthcare is planning to open four new multi-speciality hospitals in major cities in India.
The Dubai-based group's founder chairman and managing director, Dr Azad Moopen, said the new hospitals will be opened in Bengaluru, Chennai, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram. It will invest Rs7.5 billion (Dh395 million) to complete these hospitals by March 2022, which will add 1,500 beds to the existing 4,400 beds in Aster DM Healthcare's facilities across India.
Dr Moopen said the company will also be investing Rs2.5 billion for the expansion of the group's existing facilities and for purchase of equipment. The hospital that will be built in Thiruvananthapuram will be in addition to the three multi-speciality hospitals in Kerala, which put a strong background to the group's operations in India.
The group's first hospital to open in India was Aster MIMS, a NABH-accredited hospital in Kozhikode that started operations in 2002 and introduced many firsts in the state's healthcare sector.
With a Level IV trauma care centre, advanced interventional radiology, sophisticated intensive care facilities and the best blood bank in the district, Aster MIMS is fully-equipped with the latest technological brilliance that helps provide comprehensive treatment of patients, said Dr Santy Sajan, CEO of the hospital.
Aster MIMS conducts complicated treatments in the field of cosmetic surgeries, multi-organ transplants and neurosurgeries, and the hospital's success rate is excellent in the fields, said Dr Sajan, adding that the first cochlear implant in the state is one among the many advanced centres at the hospital. With the assistance of experts in various languages, the hospital is a favourite for those come to India as medical tourists.
The group's first medical institute has come up in the picturesque hill station of Wayanad, where DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences (DM WIMS) was started after realising the need of public-private partnership in the healthcare sector in the under-developed district.
The population of Wayanad includes a large number of tribals (36 per cent), majority of whom fall below the poverty line. On a day-to-day basis, they suffer from lack of facilities for trauma care, specialist care and super specialty services. Along with DM WIMS, Aster Wayanad Specialty Hospital, has taken up a number of measures to ensure that quality healthcare services are provided to the needy in the district, said Dr Antony Sylvan Dsouza, dean of the institute.
He said Aster Wayanad will also be an option for the medial value travellers coming to Kerala. For international patients, the famous Aster care, combined with the pristine beauty of Wayanad will be an attraction, he said, adding that besides the direct clinical care, de-stressing therapies, yoga and ayurveda will be available here. For patients from the GCC countries, the extensive presence of Aster DM Healthcare there will be an additional benefit as they can get their post treatment follow-up in their countries.
The flagship hospital of the group is located in Kochi, the business capital of Kerala. Aster Medcity in Kochi is one of India's most advanced healthcare destinations It combines the best of talent and technology to provide personalised, holistic medical care with a multidisciplinary approach.
Established in 2014, Aster Medcity is the first hospital in India to win all relevant accreditations and quality certifications within one year of opening its doors to the world. According to Dr Hareesh Pillai, CEO of Aster Hospitals and Clinics, Aster Medcity in Kochi is the most sought-after healthcare facility for complex, high-quality treatment in the region.
Ranked among the top hospitals in India, Aster Medcity has achieved several international and national records. These include a couple of world-firsts: A simultaneous live-donor liver and kidney transplant on a 20-month-old baby weighing just 7kg; and simultaneous liver transplants on one-year-old identical twins who suffered liver failure due to accidental poisoning. It also conducted the first robotic kidney tumour removal in India.
According to Jelson A. Kavalakkatt, CEO of Aster Medcity, the key location and the advanced technology available at the Aster Medcity, Kochi, makes it the best choice for medical tourists seeking holistic care.
With its expansion to more cities, Aster DM Healthcare would cement its position as the leader healthcare provider with the most advanced technology and experts in each field.
