In a hit-and-run case in New Delhi, a speeding BMW X1 flung a 50-year-old pedestrian several feet in the air, killing him on the spot. The accident which was caught on CCTV on Wednesday, showed the BMW hit the man crossing the road and then speeding away after the accident, police was quoted saying in NDTV report.
The accused Abhinav Sahni, 21-year-old first year undergraduate student of Khalsa College in Delhi University, was arrested a day later and released on bail.
Abhinav and his friends started in the BMW from Khalsa College to Kirori Mal, both colleges located in North Campus of Delhi University.
The victim has been identified as Shiv Nath who was trying to cross a road in Maurice Nagar at around 1.20 pm when the speeding car approaches him. The CCTV footage shows the man running across to the divider when he sees the car hurtling towards him but unfortunately gets hit. Seconds later the maroon-coloured BMW is seen speeding away, leaving the man dead on the road.
In his account to the police, Abhinav said as the man suddenly tried to run across the road in front of his car, he could not apply brakes in time. He added that accident left him scared and so he fled the spot.
