A family hailing from India's state of Uttar Pradesh has called off their son's marriage to a girl over her 'excessive use of WhatsApp'.
The wedding was to take place on September 5, 2018.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the bride and her family were informed of the wedding being cancelled when they had been waiting for the groom and his family to arrive, for the ceremony to take place. They were informed of the decision over the phone.
However these claims were refuted by the girl's family who conveyed that the actual reason behind the wedding being called off was the demand for dowry that had been made by the groom's family.
They had demanded Rs6.5 million as dowry.
The girl's father also launched a complaint against the same at the local police station.
All of the bride's family, friends as well as the relatives had been waiting to welcome the groom and the wedding party when the bride's father was informed of the wedding being called off.
A police official quoted in the Hindustan Times report also conveyed that the groom's family were annoyed over the girl's habit of using WhatsApp and that she would also send messages to her prospective in-laws even before the wedding took place.
