Two off-duty pilots of a Thai Airways flight demanding first class seats caused major inconvenience to passengers after the plane was delayed by over two hours.
The flight from Zurich to Bangkok witnessed some commotion when no first class passengers offered to give up their seats for the Thai Airways staff-members. The on-duty pilot also joined the off-duty pilots in their unprofessional demand and refused to take off the plane until they were given first class seats.
The on-duty pilot took off from Switzerland only after a couple agreed to move down to business class. The couple later filed a complaint to Thai Airways stating that passengers had been effectively 'held hostage' by the flight crew.
Post the incident, Thai Airways president Sumeth Damrongchaitham made a public apology and said in a statement: "I express sorrow and apologise to all passengers affected by the unprofessional action that caused the delay," Daily Mail quoted Bangkok Post reports.
The flight from Zurich was due to take off at 1.30 pm but ended up being over two hours late and reportedly landing in Bangkok 90 minutes after scheduled arrival.
Prominent travel blogger One Mile At A Time stated that while no first class seats had been sold and that the passengers in first class had all paid for business and been upgraded, the incident is 'still bad' and 'ridiculous'.
