Al Azhar will hold a two-day international conference on January 17-18  for backing Jerusalem as the proposed capital of Palestine.
The 'World Conference in Support of Jerusalem' will be held in collaboration with the Muslim Council of Elders.
Al Azhar will invite scholars and politicians, Islamic and Christian leaders, and regional and international organisations concerned with the Jerusalem case. The conference will discuss several working papers on 3 main points under its theme "The Arabian Identity of Jerusalem and its Message."
"World Conference in Support of Jerusalem" comes as part of a decision taken by the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed Al Tayyeb and head of MCE Dr  Ahmed Al Tayyeb against US president's decision to relocate US embassy into the occupied city.
The conference will issue several recommendations emphasising the Palestinian people's rights in establishing their state with Jerusalem as its capital, and also to protect sacred areas in the city.
