When the 18-year-old college student lost control of his vehicle that plunged into freezing waters in Iowa, he asked Apple's Siri to call 911. Soon, firefighters were on way to pull him out of his sinking jeep in Winnebago River.
According to reports in Insider, Gael Salcedo was driving down the icy bridge when the accident took place on Wednesday. Salcedo's told US news service KIMT3 that he was going to die as he was unable to find his phone to call for help. Panicked Salcedo used his presence of mind and asked his iPhone's voice assistant to call for help.
"I lost my phone and since I couldn't find it, I was like 'Hey Siri, call 911'. And once Siri called, that's when I found my phone finally," Salcedo said. The call was answered by firefighters from nearby Mason City, who pulled Salcedo out of the jeep's window.
"You're going to have to walk out. I'll be right there with you holding on every step of the way," Mason City Fire Department's Lieutenant Craig Warner had told the teenager while rescuing him. Salcedo was treated for shock and discharged from hospital in three hours.
