A teenager from Newcastle, England, suffered temporary blindness after a microwaved egg exploded in her face.
Courtney Wood, 19, was making breakfast on Boxing Day and put an egg in a microwave. As soon as she took the egg out of the microwave oven, it exploded in her face leaving her without sight in her left eye, Mirror.UK quoted Stoke Sentinel reports.

Wood said she has cooked eggs in microwave a number of times before but on the fateful day it exploded without warning, leaving her with burns and painful blisters.
"On Boxing Day morning I was cooking myself some breakfast. I had put some bacon under the grill and then I put an egg in a jug with a bit of water - as I have done before - and popped it in the microwave for a minute," Wood said.
Warning others of the dangers, the care assistant added, "The microwave didn't ping so I took the egg back out, popped it on the side and checked on the bacon. When I turned back towards the jug the egg exploded in my face."
Wood immediately began screaming with pain and splashed cold water on her face before she called a friend. "By this point I couldn't see and I was screaming in pain. My friend came round straightaway and he called 111 who told me to go straight to the hospital."
Wood was treated with morphine and gauze at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and doctors told her that although the burns were not serious, she had scratched both her corneas. Fortunately, doctors informed Wood that her eyesight damage was not permanent.
Wood stayed with her mother for a couple of days after the accident and while sight in her right eye came back within 48 hours, vision in her left eye is still affected.
"I have eye drops and steroids and I have to go back to the eye clinic every day until my eyes have healed. Doctors have told me the sight in my left eye may not be restored for a week or maybe even longer," Wood added.

The teenager added, "This was the worst pain I have ever suffered - it was horrific - and I would hate anyone else to have to go through what I have been through."
