Belgrade airport has been temporarily closed after an Egyptair jet landed with burst tires, blocking the only runway.
Airport authorities said Wednesday numerous flights have had to be diverted and thousands of passengers have been stranded since the empty Boeing 737-800 landed at 4:11 a.m.

Photos from the scene show two blown tires under the right wing undercarriage. There are conflicting reports about whether the tires burst on landing or were already blown.
Belgrade media reports say the runway could have also been damaged and technicians are trying to figure out how to tow the jet off the tarmac.
Most of the arriving flights have been diverted to the central Serbian town of Nis, or to Budapest in Hungary.
It was not clear when the only civilian airport in the Serbian capital will reopen.
