A 4-year-old boy tried to walk home from a bus depot in Inverness, UK, after he was left behind on his school bus.
John Robertson was spotted by two of his teachers, shivering in the cold weather and walking alone towards his house in North Kessock from Munlochy Primary School last Friday.
The boy did not get off the bus at his stop because he waited for the driver to fetch him when his stop arrived. However, the bus driver failed to notice that John had not got off at his stop and also did not check the bus after dropping off all the students.
John was left behind in the bus parked in D&E Coaches' Inverness Longman depot, about three miles from his house. He managed to open the door of the mini bus and set out to find his way home, till he was spotted close to Inverness Caledonian Thistle's stadium.
He told his parents he had waited onboard the mini bus after it stopped at the depot, expecting the driver to come and find him. John's parents had assumed that their son was late home because the school bus had been delayed by bad weather, which included snow showers.
John's father told BBC Radio Scotland that he frantically started looking for his son who was not yet dropped off home well past his scheduled time. He added, "It was a mini bus, so he was able to open the door. He decided to get to the Kessock Bridge to get home. He said he crossed a couple of roads. Luckily two teachers found him. They said he was shaken up, cold and after some persuasion, because we've taught him not to talk to strangers, they managed to get him into their warm car."
He further said that he was proud that John did not panic and remain in the bus, instead, he tried to get home.
D&E Coaches, a school transport service provider, dismissed the driver for misconduct.
