Eating out, poor hand hygiene and erratic weather may be among causes, say medics
Alexa Terrazas, a Mexican college student, was doing an extreme yoga pose over the edge of her sixth-floor apartment balcony when she slipped and landed on the driveway of her building in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon on Saturday, the Daily Mail said.
An image of Terrazas before she slipped went viral, showing the young woman hanging upside down in front of the balcony while supporting the entire weight of her body on the rail, News.com.au added.
She was taken to a local hospital and underwent 11 hours of surgery, suffering fractures to both her legs, arms as well as her hips and head. Mexican outlet El Imparcial reported she may not be able to walk for three years after doctors were forced to reconstruct her broken legs. She reportedly broke 110 bones in the horrific fall.
An investigation from the Nuevo Leon attorney-general's office found the balcony's rail had no structural failings and ruled the fall to be an accident, News.com.au added.
