A 60-something is a secret millionaire, has an MBA from the University of Chicago, and owner of a $1 million house in Brooklyn's upscale neighbourhood, spends her day collecting cans from trash.
The bizarre hobby has her family up in arms, according to Business Insider.
Lisa Fiekowski lives in Prospect Heights and generates $20 to $30 (Dh74-110) by collecting cans, according to The New York Post report published Wednesday.
She has been collecting cans for about a decade now. She enjoys it because it keeps her active, allows her to chat with neighbours, and helps keep her area clean.
"Mostly, it's physical activity. My family thinks this whole thing is horrible, but I think it's so funny," said Fiekowski.
She defended her hobby and said New Yorkers have become judgmental.
"I'm an old-fashioned bohemian. To me, what's sad is New York used to have acceptance of people being eccentric, but now it's like, 'Heaven forbid!" Fiekowski added.
She cited an example when last month, her dented, graffiti covered 1993 Toyota Camry (filled with junk) was towed.
"People were so upset that this terrible car was in the neighborhood. It shows you how intolerant that area is," she said, adding that her car was towed in spite of being parked legally.
Fiekowski owns over $8 million worth of properties around New York City, including a $1 million co-op next to Prospect Park, the Post said.
Fiekowski and her husband make about $180,000 a year. She worked as a marketing analyst and a stockbroker while her parents were high-ranking economists in the US government.
In spite of her affluent background, Fiekowski's trash-collecting hobby has left at least one of her houses in a shabby state packed with an old microwave, an umbrella, toys, carpets, and other trash.
