Peanuts - salted or plain is a popular and favourite snack for many.
According to a report in Fox News, Southwest Airlines will stop serving peanuts to passengers onboard as a preventive measure in case any of the passengers might be suffering from serious nut allergies.
A 9-year-old passenger has suffered from a serious reaction due to the peanuts being served on a Southwest flight. The incident had forced the family to administer his EpiPen.
The airline's spokesperson as quoted in Fox News said that the airline has made the difficult decision to discontinue the practice of serving peanuts on all of Southwest Airlines flights in order to make sure that all passengers especially ones with peanut-allergies have the best on-board experience.
The spokesperson also added that the other free snacks served on board would still be available for the passengers travelling with them which of course include the pretzels.
The airline has served more than a 106 million peanuts and over 38 million pretzels on its flights as conveyed by the corporate fact sheet on its website.
